22 title: French Toast
3-servings: 3
4-changelog: New recipe — second sweet weekend breakfast option, for variety with the pancakes. Uses thick-cut bread; works well with slightly stale Vollkornbrot. Initial version.
3+servings: 4
4+changelog: Adapted from the Pain Perdu (Lost Bread) recipe from Cooking Up A Storm, found on r/Cooking. Sugar now goes into the custard, which is thin so stale bread soaks all the way through, then each slice is fried in butter. Quantities kept as published and converted to metric, so 8 slices of bread, 2 eggs, 240 ml milk, 100 g sugar, 2 ml vanilla and 115 g butter. Cinnamon dropped to match the source. Berries and maple syrup carried over from v1.

15--- Great way to use up bread that's gone a bit stale — pairs well with the "bread goes stale" fridge reality.
16--- For Cozy: serve plain with just a little syrup; skip berries if she's not feeling them that day.
17--- About 350-400 kcal per adult portion (2-3 slices with toppings).
17+-- Fresh bread falls apart in the custard, so use stale bread.
18+-- For Cozy: serve plain with a little syrup, berries on the side.
19+-- In autumn, sauteed apple slices make a good seasonal swap for the berries.
20+-- About 600-650 kcal per portion at 4 servings (2 slices with toppings); Cozy a bit less.
